The excitement of wrapping up your bachelor’s degree is a rollercoaster ride of many emotions. It’s that time in your life where you get to experience all sorts of career paths, leading to finding your passion. Deciding the right place to learn, grow and nourish your career path isn’t always easy. We are extremely excited to be that place for some of our interns.

The dentsu Summer Experience is a valuable and immersive nine-week program designed for college students and recent graduates to further their professional development and explore their passions. The program exposes interns to agency work, life, and culture through various assignments and opportunities.

The 2022 dentsu Summer Experience consisted of over 100 interns and extended across three of our service lines. Some of the main components of the program included tailored onboarding, weekly workshops/events, a structured mentorship program, and engaging social events.

To celebrate National Intern Day and commemorate the 2022 dentsu Summer Experience, we asked a few of our interns to reflect on their time here at dentsu. Here’s what they had to say:

Kaylan Waldron, Account Management Intern, dentsu Creative

As someone who recently graduated from college, I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my degree in advertising and I was recommended to apply for dentsu’s Summer Experience Internship program. I was hesitant at first, but it has been one of the best decisions I have made! Dentsu truly cares about your career, and they want you to explore your interests. As an intern, you are provided with an abundance of resources from mentors to workshops with fellow interns. For me, this was extremely beneficial because I was able to learn a little more about each position and the company while also collaborating with people from different lines of work. Through these resources I was able to make connections with amazing people all throughout the company. As my internship comes to an end, I now know exactly what I would like to do with my career, and I am thankful that dentsu helped me get there.

Mantika Mehra, Influencer Marketing Intern, dentsu

I am proud to be following my dreams. When I was younger, I always felt discouraged being surrounded by people doing the "traditional" route of being a doctor or lawyer etc. However, I am happy I did not let that stop me from following my dreams and taking a creative route and studying and doing what I want

The dentsu Summer Experience has been amazing, and I can confidently say it better prepared me for starting my career. Firstly, the number of resources the program provides is extraordinary, whether it be connecting you with a mentor that has life-long experiences, or LinkedIn Learning, the resources are endless to better your career. This internship has also introduced me to the professional marketing world and helped me network among many different teams aside from mine! Everyone at dentsu is here to make this experience worthwhile, I learn something new every day from my team, and I can put what I know and learned into action through various projects, presentations, and more. I couldn't have asked for a better internship opportunity to prepare me for my career.

Victoria Maldonado, Copywriter Intern, dentsu Creative

I am proud of my heritage! As a first-generation Mexican-American and half Puerto Rican woman, I value community and connection and that’s exactly what I get here at dentsu. Everyone is open to connecting and having a conversation, sharing advice, and providing guidance. Some of the best pieces of advice I’ve gotten is to always have the humility to ask for help and to know your bandwidth. Both pieces of advice I got from co-workers at dentsu and they resonated with me for different reasons.  As an intern, it can be intimidating to ask questions even though we all know that interns aren’t expected to know everything. In the age of remote work, it can be easy to say yes to a lot of things and pile on more than expected. Knowing what you can and cannot do, and to be able to express that to your manager/team is critical for a work/life balance and for mental health. It also avoids potential problems closer to deadlines. While these two pieces of advice seem obvious, hearing it and taking it in really sets in the importance of what the truth behind them is.
