Elena Mitan, Head of Content in Dentsu Creative Romania, writes in her blog about her inspiration for creativity spanning from great women creative professionals.
Being the Head of Social Media and Content is a challenging and rewarding position that requires a unique combination of creativity and leadership skills. In this position one needs to balance the need to create innovative and impactful content with the need to meet business objectives and stay within budget, while staying inspired and up to the latest trends and technical developments at the same time.
But it is all worth it, as creativity is the most beautiful gift. Because what we create through campaigns or simple social posts can activate a series of feelings in the souls of readers or followers. People need see, touch, and feel creativity to be able to break out of society's routine.
At the same time, it is a connection between me from today and yesterday's child. Because in childhood, I often dreamed of being able to express my creativity and imagination in a certain way.
However, when you grow up in a small society, in my case Romania, without school programs or activities to encourage this side, you come to believe that you cannot have a job that is the basis of this ability.
Getting to work in the advertising industry is a personal fulfilment of the fact that creativity was not something in vain but a plus towards a professional path.
That said, creativity represents a state of mind and professional fulfilment. To continue to be creative means to continue reading, discovering new things, and evolving. My dream is to develop a program where I can explain to as many children from rural areas as the fact that there are jobs where their creativity can represent a most significant asset.
My creative inspiration:
An inspiring book: Find Your Unicorn Space: Reclaim Your Creative Life in a Too-Busy World Eve Rodsky
An inspiring podcast: Stuff Mom Never Told You
If you could have dinner with a Creative Idol, whom would it be?
- Frida Kahlo: Mexican painter known for self-portraits, bold style, and themes of identity, gender, class, and race.
- Ava DuVernay: American filmmaker, director and producer known for films such as "Selma," "13th," and "A Wrinkle in Time." They advocate for representation and diversity in media.
Creative work that inspires me:
A work made by a woman that inspires me is the photograph "Migrant Mother" by Dorothea Lange. The picture was taken in 1936, during the Great Depression, and it depicts a mother and her children, who were part of the thousands of migrant farm workers displaced by the drought and economic conditions of the time. The photograph captures the mother's exhaustion, strength, and determination, becoming an iconic image of the era.
What makes this photograph so inspiring to me is how Lange captured due the humanity and dignity of the subject, despite the difficult circumstances.
My mantra:
Dust does not settle on dreams.
